I have been blessed with the pleasure of experiencing spring break in Cabo not once, but twice, in my college career. I obviously can’t get enough of this gorgeous town. So, I thought I’d give you the complete rundown of what to expect and things to do while you’re there.
Hotel Situation:
First things first, if you’re deciding between hotels ask around at your school to see where a majority of people are staying at. This is crucial because almost all hotels are all-inclusive, meaning everything’s included which also means wristbands. You’ll come to find out that groups spend most of their week day drinking by the hotel pool, only accessible to those staying at that resort. So, if you don’t want to miss out on the classic spring break pool parties I highly suggest staying where the crowd is.
Option 1: Me Cabo https://www.mebymelia.com/hotels/me-cabo/: This hotel was new to me on my second time around. Some friends from my school stayed here and loved it. It seems to be a go-to for a lot of spring breakers, plus it’s closer to downtown Cabo by all the clubs. I know once in a while they have performers such as Migos, Steve Aoki, and others scheduled to perform at their pool. Overall worth checking them out and getting a little more information.
Option 2/3: Riu Santa Fe/Riu Palace https://www.riu.com/en/hotel/mexico/los-cabos/hotel-riu-palace-cabo-san-lucas/: This is the hotel where you can find all of Michigan State at, and a bunch of other colleges that mostly depends on the time frame you’re going at. The pool parties are insane and almost anywhere you can find a drunk frat boy passed out by a palm tree from the hours of 11am-4pm.
The Rundown: Riu Santa Fe is the cheapest hotel under the umbrella of Riu hotels, therefore a majority of the people stay there. It’s the host hotel of all the day drinking. HOWEVER, if you are like me and actually mind the taste of food, cleanliness of a hotel, and want decent liquor choice/service, then I suggest you stay in the Riu Palace. It’s a little bit more expensive but I promise you it’s worth it. for these following reasons:
- It’s located right next to Santa Fe, and you have complete access to both pools.
- The Palace has an amazing food selection, from morning buffets to steak house dinners. (And an espresso bar with pastries).
- WAY better liquor selection. We’re talking Absolut compared to Popov.
- It’s quieter, therefore giving you at least a little break from the hectic spring break week.
- The service is 100x better than Santa Fe. They treat you like the queen or king you are, not like a normal annoying spring breaker.
- THE PERFECT UNINTERRUPTED PHOTOSHOOT. Wake up early and get that infinity pool pic for the gram without a crowd of other college girls trying to get the perfect shot.
Day Activities:
Like stated before, a majority of day drinking/ day activities take place at the hotel pool. Although that’s not your only option. Here’s a breakdown of my personal favorites to switch your week up:
- Omnia Day Club: Get a group together and buy tickets! Depending on whose performing during the week you’re there, it’ll most likely be packed full of college students. It breaks your week up and provides that luxury Vegas feel. I saw Loud Luxury and Chantel Jeffries here.
- Booze Cruise: This ones tricky, because you either have to be the one organizing the booze cruise, OR know someone before hand and get on the list. Whichever side you fall on, DO IT. I promise you the endless amount of tequila sunrises + chips & guac are worth it.
- Mango Deck Bar and Beach Club: A fun restaurant/day bar. Get a big group and get drunk. We took a water taxi from our hotel to Mango Deck and had a time. My friend went on stage for the twerking competition and rightfully won free bottles for the clubs at night. Good entertainment and overall a good time.
- Jet skis/Water Taxi to lovers beach: Ask your hotel to provide you with either of these activities and they will. We wanted to go out by the arch on lovers beach. It was only $15 a person and well worth it. The island is beautiful and it only takes 15 minutes to get there. Jet skiing is all fun and games until you see a shark and book it back in.
Nightclubs:
What’s nice about the nightlife in Cabo is all the clubs are basically lined up like a cul de sac. Everything’s super close by each other so if you aren’t really feeling the vibe of one bar, you can just hop to the next. College kids are overflowing in the streets and clubs during spring break, but I suggest getting a group and deciding what club you want to start at. Remember to ALWAYS go in groups and never leave to venture off on your own. Here’s a list of the clubs I got to experience and my POV:
- Mandala (9/10): Fun/clean one of them all. It’s always a good time here and they have classic club songs. The women’s bathroom is always instagrammable! It’s an indoor/outdoor club as well.
- EL SQUID ROE (9/10): If spring break was a club, it would be this one. I’m sure you’ve seen it if you searched “spring break in Cabo”. It’s the rectangle crazy looking club, always packed to the brim. It’s definitely an experience, but you’ll have a great time. We got bottle service here multiple times and the workers are the nicest!
- Coco Bongo (6/10): Haven’t been unfortunately but I heard it’s insane. All I know is that the girls dance from the ceiling in those tarp things, so you know it’s a good time.
- La Vaquita (aka cow club)(7/10): Also an inside/outside club. Really cool layout and huge. Spring break atmosphere all the way.
- Crush Nightspot (really small)(5/10): We stopped in here for 15 minutes and checked it out. Almost no spring breakers but it was cool to see. They had art on the wall that changed when you moved.
Last words
Honestly, spring break is what you make of it. Whether you want a crazy college experience, or a chill one with your friends. Theres obviously a lot more to do in Cabo than just drink and all of the above, but this is what I did and I had an amazing time.
